Save the Bees

Michelle and Thomas Blackburn recognized the essential need to save the Honey Bees.  This is how Queen of Diamonds Apiaries was conceived.

Why Honey Bees?

European ships brought the European Honey Bee to America around 1622.  However, a fossil record in Nevada showed Honey Bees lived in North America dating back to 14 million years ago.  So, how long has the Honey Bee been here in the US, will we ever know?  Honey is one of the few foods which can still be edible even after 3000 years, as they found out when  King Tut's tomb was discovered in 1922.

In October 2023, Houston news reported for the second consecutive year, Honey Bee colonies across the United States have experienced record losses.  Honey Bee colonies of five or more are down by 7% from 2022 to 2023.  Fewer bees could lead to fewer fruits and vegetables, which could impact both our health and our pocketbooks!

What is in a Name?

The Queen Bee gives life to the colony by providing the eggs. She produces a chemical scent that keeps the colony together working in harmony.  Not only are diamonds associated with strength, love and health, they are also Michelle's birthstone!

The Queen of Diamonds Apiaries aims to share life, harmony, strength, love and health with our community.
